Gentoo RULES!!!

Wow I suck. It was October. It's now December.

Anyway, I screwed up my suse with the ubuntu, screwed up my ubuntu with gentoo, screwed up my gentoo with kde, got another ubuntu, installed gentoo again. This is ****ing awesome now. Let's just say that my desktop pwns your desktop. http://omploader.org/file/Screenshot25.png

I win.

So 3 or 4 months after timidgtk0.02, I have actual source that works. Ditto first sentence. There was a problem with gtk, so I got sidetracked in building gentoo.

I'll have a package within the week, hopefully.

As for gentoo: The trick is to use rc-update for your init.d scripts, everything else that you want streamlined is on the web.

Ps:

WIRELESS WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got my old at... usb card working in gentoo! The last thing I need to give my mom linux is support for her new lexmark x1270 (Lexmark's getting some nasty emails :) )

I hate Pango

Timidgtk 0.03 is quite possibly within a week of release (knock on wood). I've been doing tons of development, and have found that sdl_sound and gtk absolutely do not work together. I've been thinking that maybe it was just in gtk 2.8, so I decided to try to upgrade (to 2.10 - I only want the earliest release possible to allow for more people to be guaranteed able to use it). Unfortunately, Pango decided to be mean and not build, so I'm stuck.

I'm downloading Ubuntu tonight, and will set that up for development. If my program doesn't work even in new gtk-mode, I'll either have to find (or make) a new sound library, or make it Timidqt :). Whatever happens, I'll release to CVS probably this weekend.

I'm keeping OpenSuSE as my main box, and will update to 10.2 final when released.

Blog Update

It's been pretty boring here in computerland. The most interesting thing I'm doing is trying to get a Citrix implementation (client only) on my system. (If you care, it is a Metaframe Presentation Server Client with SSL proxying that I want - I got it working with windoze.) I'm having a number of problems with the SSL and everything else. I'm sending an e-mail to my tech admin, I'll post back here with the solution.

A New Penguin!

I have (almost) officially retired My Penguin. Don't worry though, this blog will continue! My New Penguin (PenguinII) is an HP Pavilion a450n running the same linux distro and a completely copied home directory. It was kindly donated to me by a relative because it was in a fire. What I mean by that is that it was in the other side of the house that the fire was in, but it still got DRENCHED in smoke. After several hours of cleaning, and throwing out components that I could, it's good as new (with a slight lingering odor).

But that's not why I called. Many new things have happened recently. First of all, timidgtk 0.03 is in pre-pre-alpha (I _almost_ have _some_ of the features I want :) ) stage. I'm now posting from a "post blog entry" applet I found). I just got flash and Plugger working for Konqueror. Mostly, though, I've been trying to get Citrix working. I'll wrap this up quickly, and I'll post back here if I get any new thoughts about this.

My "other" penguin

While this blog is about my Penguin, I thought I'd post what's happening with all my systems.

I have My penguin hooked up to an OpenWRT WRT54g v1.1 box, running in a really cool mode, totally impossible with Linksys F/W. It gives me internet.

What I've been focusing on mostly, is my FIC AZ11 LFS box (Take "box" lightly; it's spewed out on a desk :) )
I just got X working, but not DRI. I have a 3dfx voodoo3 card, and Glide hasn't been develed for YEARS! I'm thinking of making a new project, to interface Mesa directly to hardware, or just devel the Glide. See for details.

Sounds like fun, with lots of cursing :)

BTW: Go to timidgtk.sourceforge.net . I'm almost done with a version 0.02!

New Project

I've been working on a GTK Front-end for Timidity (that I named TimidGtk). Anyway, I'm creating a sourceforge project for it, and I'll post back here. They said it would take about 2 business days to process my request. Given that... aw crap: it's Friday Night!

Anyway, my Build everything project is not so great. I need to rebuild the kernel again, (You !#%^@& !#^@$ WHY WILL YOU NOT BOOT!!!) and I'm lazy.

Build EVERYTHING!!!

Since the internet is so convenient, I've been building new games (and the libraries they've required) often. I was thinking, though, what happens if I rebuild EVERYTHING? It looks like a fun project.

On another note, I recently got some new IDE cables ( http://mdmm.com/products/techietoyz/cables.asp , MD-18-ATA-PT-3CU). Notice that they MSRP at $10.99. I got them for $4.99 each! Finally, 66mbps swap!

I'm happy with my current situation,
