First post!
When I refer to "My Penguin", I'm talking about one of my computers. It is a Dell Dimension 2400 that I got refurbed for pretty cheap. My adventures into Linux started a long time before this machine, but I dove in and never swam out on it. I'm using openSUSE btw, a great distro for anyone. I'm on 10.1 final currently.
I decided to start this blog as a way to express what's happening with my computer, and to try to get help if I need. This blog will be posted to appoxamately whenever I feel like it, and you can talk to me through my email at pyrophobicman@gmail.com if you have suggestions or comments. I may quote your email in my next post, so watch out! :)
Anyway, I ought to get to my most recent adventure. Since what I do most of the time with this computer is play either Supertux or Planet Penguin Racer, I need good graphics :) . My videocard is the built-in Intel 845. I noticed that PPracer was choppy, so I realized that I could check the box "3d acceleration", and lo and behold, it plays smoothly. I did notice that OpenGL was not supported. I downloaded Intel's i915 driver (works for i845), but it turns out SUSE never built the agpgart module! I rebuild the kernel (upgrade, actually to 2.6.16.18), and install the driver (included in the kernel, btw). So I check with Sax2 that the hardware was setup correctly, and the 3d acceleration was checked. In "My Computer", though, it says that I'm still on the i810 driver and that acceleration is disabled. In PPracer, it is choppy again.
If you have any ideas on what to do from here, give me an email.
